Our contest winner, Milt Kintzley, loves Beaver baseball

Milt Kintzley

Silverton resident Milt Kintzley, winner of our Sept. 1 drawing for “Wherever You May Be: The Bill Schonely Story,” is a long-time fan of Oregon State sports.

But the biggest interest for Milt and his wife of 47 years, Kathryn, is Beaver baseball.

“We follow the Beavers pretty closely,” says Kintzley, 81, now retired after a career as technical sales manager for a chemical company that made adhesives for the wood products industry. “We’re season ticket-holders and always go to Arizona for a couple of weeks to watch them play in Surprise.”

The Kintzleys used to be season ticket-holders in football, too, “but then it became too hard to climb the stairs.”

Milt didn’t attend Oregon State, but son Charles graduated from there in mechanical engineering.

“We started going to Oregon State events when he was in the fourth or fifth grade,” Milt says. “We wanted to go to anything we could that might get him linked to that school. His mother and I became totally engrossed in Beaver stuff.”

The Kintzleys follow pro sports teams that have ex-Beavers playing for them, Milt says. And he follows the Trail Blazers, though not as closely as he did during the time Schonely was calling their games on radio.

“We are absolutely Bill Schonely fans,” he says. “I really like how sincere he seems about his love for the Blazers.”
